Having been initially trained at Loughborough Collage of Art and Design in the early nineteen eighties, Mike took up work as an illustrator with a variety work to include residencies at Shrewsbury 6th Form Collage and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. This was followed by two years living in an Inupiat village in the high Arctic documenting the lives of the natives.

On his return mike took further studies in Fine art at Edinburgh and Glasgow Schools of Art, but with a desire for more classical training, Mike attended summer school at the London Atelier of Realistic Art.

Influenced by the masters, Mike strives to emulate the richness and optical depth of many 17th, 18th and 19th century paintings in his own work, with a contemporary content, more relevant to today.

At the same time as working as a professional artist from his studio in Alloa, Mike works at the world renowned Glasgow School of Art and the London based Essential School of Painting.
